Questions people ask

What does a home or renters policy cover?

Usually your belongings, your personal liability, and extra living costs if you must move out after a covered loss. Homeowners policies also cover the house and other structures.

Is flood covered by home or renters insurance?

Generally no. Flood needs a separate policy through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private insurer, usually with a 30-day wait.

How much personal property coverage do I need?

Enough to replace everything you own at today's prices. Adding up each room is the most reliable way to find the number.

Should dwelling coverage match my home's value?

It should match the cost to rebuild, not the market value, which includes land.

How much liability should a renter or homeowner carry?

At least $100,000, and more if you have savings or income to protect, with an umbrella policy when your net worth is larger than your limits.
